Sugar effects your breathing!!!

When we consume processed sugar in our diet it causes a rapid acidification of our blood. It’s important that our blood maintains a steady pH level to support all bodily functions. Therefore, our body responds to sugar intake by increasing our breathing rate. 

An increase in breathing rate alkalizes the blood and helps bring it back down to normal levels, but it causes an increased breathing rate and increased levels of stress hormones, which if you remember, reduce your immune function. 

It’s worth noting that it has been suggested that consumption of 1 teaspoon of processed sugar can inhibit the immune system by 50% for 4 hours. When you consider there are about 8 teaspoons in one 12oz can of cola, that can be quite a hit for the immune system. 

If you are consuming processed sugars (ensure you check labels), you might want to consider switching to more natural forms of sugars, such as fruits and vegetables. As well as improving your immune function, you’ll also reduce the likelihood of many other disease states too.
