What is important about hydration, is not just about drinking the right amount of water. It’s also very important to get the right quality of water. If you think just drinking tap water will get the job done, then you need to think again.
Almost everywhere today, tap water has chemicals added to it to make it safer to drink. However, tap water has been found to include chlorine, fluoride, pesticide residues and traces of female contraceptives to name just a few.
Chlorine is added to the water to kill any bugs in the water supply. However, chlorine is highly toxic and despite what many experts might say about the safety of the low levels of chlorine in our water supply, just as many experts suggest it is dangerous.
Chlorine will also kill the good bacteria in your gut if you drink, cook with or bathe in chlorinated water. It is well known that your gut microbiome (bacteria and fungi) plays a crucial role in immune function.
When you drink chlorinated water that kills your good bacteria you leave the bad bacteria, fungus and parasites free to roam and take over your gut.
These ‘bad’ bugs prevent you from absorbing all the nutrients from your food and poison your gut. And where is most of your immune system located? You guessed it, your gut!
In addition, there are chlorine resistance bugs like Giardia Lamblia, which is a known chlorine-resistant parasite. So, chlorine isn’t able to completely eliminate all the bugs anyway. Just for that one reason alone, it is not worth using tap water.
